Several things will change that you should be aware of. Login. You are required to supply a user name and a password to the faculty file server before you can access any of the services on it. This includes use of printers other than those attached directly to your computer, and use of shared hard drive space. Serveral new drives will appear for your use. For PC users, the only ones that matter are drives M and H. For Mac users, only one new drive matters, it is listed as Faculty Data. In these drives, you will see a variety of folders (directories). Their usage is detailed below: Dean's Faculty This folder is for faculty to use to store data for their workgroups. A folder will be created for each group as requested, and access rights set so that only that group will have access to the folder. Home In this folder, each user should see one folder corresponding to their login id. This folder is only accessible by them, and should be used for things that other people shouldnt change or be able to access. Install This folder is for storage of utilities used on many computers. For most users, this is a folder that can be ignored completely. Shared This folder exists to facilitate the sharing of files between groups of people that dont normally share files. In this folder, everyone can at least read all the files here. Templates, and other general informational things will be placed here on occassion. (For instance, Macintosh Pricing from Apple will be transfered here as I notice a new version on the C&IT server) The Transfer folder is a folder that anyone can read and write in.
